Do You Ravel?

I have been on Ravelry since I first started knitting and learned about this fabulous site.  I love Ravelry.  The concept of Ravelry is so ingenious and has tried to be duplicated for other needle arts but never successfully.

If you’re not familiar with Ravelry allow me to give you an overview.  Ravelry is a website for knitters, crocheters, spinners, dyers and really anyone interested in fiber arts.  You can browse and purchase patterns and find many that are free.  You can learn about new yarns and meet other like minded individuals and make new friends.  There are groups and forums.  And you can log and keep track of your own projects and yarns as well as plan future projects you want to make.

Search Google for Ravelry and you will get this definition:

Ravelry is a community site, an organizational tool, and a yarn & pattern database for knitters and crocheters.

As I said…it’s ingenious and I love it.

Back in February, on a whim, I started a Ravelry group.  I really didn’t know what I was going to do with this group or have any plans for it really.  But one of the things I enjoy most about Ravelry is the groups and the community aspect of the site.  So…I just logged on one day and thought I’d see what was involved in starting a group.  I could delete it if I decided I didn’t want to keep it, right?  Wrong.  I didn’t know that once you create a group you have to contact Ravelry and ask them to delete it.  And that seemed like such a bother…soooo…I just left it.  I didn’t advertise it in anyway.  Didn’t tell anyone I had created it with the exception of a few family members who don’t knit.  And never expected anyone to join.  But they did.  To my surprise.

So now what?  Here is this little group of people who have joined my Ravelry group and they’re going to expect things.  Posts, communication, KAL’s.  I hadn’t really been prepared for all that.

But…starting that Ravelry group has been one of the best things I have done on a whim.  I’ve met some of the nicest people and have really enjoyed chatting with them and looking at the projects they are working on.  It’s been really fun.  We are a small group still and that’s ok.  It’s nice be be able to get to know everyone in the group and have a chance to chat with them and not feel overwhelmed as you sometimes can in a group with lots of members.  And we even have a KAL going on.

If you’d like to join my little group just click here or on the Ravelry group tab at the top of the page.  Or you can just search The Handmaker’s Bag Ravelry Group while on the Ravelry website.

I would love for you to join and be able to get to know you better.  So…what do you say?  Do you Ravel?  If you do…come join us in The Handmaker’s Bag Ravelry Group.

Until next time…

Create Joy Everyday
